Wall-mounting is one of the best ways to install solar panels. Not only do they maximize the space in your house, but they are also exposed to higher levels of sunlight which is essential in producing solar energy.
Here is a quick guide on how to install wall-mounted solar panels:
Materials:
AC breakers and subpanels
Wiring junctions and splices
AC disconnects and fuses
PV meters
Conduits
Multimeter
N95 respirator
Electrical Installation
Your wirings can make or break your solar panel system. This is why it’s essential to plan it before getting the materials you need.
- For a centralized inverter, observe the following connections: PV strings to the junction box, junction box to the inverter, and AC out to subpanel.
- When these connections are made, use wire clips to secure the wire leads, so they don’t get unattached during windy days.
- It’s also highly recommended to use spring clamps on your solar panels. These will secure the position of your solar panels on the metal mount.
Mounting the Solar Panels
Just like the wiring, it’s best to plan out the position of your solar panels beforehand. Ensure that the solar planes will get at least 8 hours of sunlight within the day for an optimal experience.
- Locate and mark roof rafters.
- Install roof attachments to secure your rails in place.
- Install racking rails.
- Lift panels onto your roof.
- Mount panels on your rails.
Connecting your Solar Battery
Last but not least is connecting your solar panels to your battery.
- Determine the type of batteries you’re going to use: flooded lead-acid, sealed lead-acid, or lithium-ion battery.
- Upon following the connection instruction indicated on the battery, use a multimeter to check the conductors and verify their voltages.
- Ensure that all wires are stripped and appropriately terminated.
- Place all the wires away from edges and pinch points as these can tear up the wires sooner or later.
