Guide on solar panel maintenance

Just like any home item, your solar maintenance needs periodic maintenance. In fact, in some cases, maintenance is even more complex than the installation itself.

Professional vs. personal solar panel maintenance

The first thing that you have to know as a solar panel owner is professional maintenance providers for solar panels. The standard solar panel provider gives a maintenance warranty of at least 15 years, ensuring that your solar panel efficiency remains to be at 85%.

Professional maintenance includes wirings, mounting, insulation, troubleshooting, and pretty much everything about your solar panels. However, as a responsible owner, you should do period cleaning and monitoring your solar panels.

How to properly maintain your solar panel?

1. Shut down connections when cleaning.

When cleaning your solar panels, always remember to turn off all connections first. This will not just ensure your safety but will also avoid short circuits on your solar panels.

2. Keep it dry and block off the water.

When rain or snow has just occurred, it’s best to let your solar panels dry first before cleaning. You can do this by simply exposing it to the sun while remaining disconnected from any power connections. After this, ensure that all pipes, drainages, and other water sources on your roof are blocked.

3. Clean your solar panels in the ground.

You can dust off dirt or wipe the moisture off your solar panels for regular cleaning. However, for deep cleaning (ideally every three months), it’s best to unmount your solar panels from the roof. This will not just give your access to the entire solar panel but will also keep you safe.

4. Mild liquid detergent and a soft cloth.

In deep cleaning your solar panels, it’s best to use mild liquid detergent (ideally on spray bottles) and a soft cloth. This combination will ensure that the capacity of your solar panels to absorb heat will not be affected.
