Surprise! Solar Panel Efficiency Isn’t That Important at All

Yes, the cost of solar panels is affected by their efficiency. The earlier-mentioned premium efficiency panels are often more expensive than standard efficiency panels, typically by approximately $0.15 per watt.

However, Tier 1 Chinese producers are starting to provide the market with more high-efficiency panels. Watching how this affects the market will be fascinating as Chinese producers charge far less for these high-efficiency modules than other companies.

Does the effectiveness of solar panels matter?

Brands of solar panels frequently mention efficiency ratings, as we previously said. And we can’t fault them! A record-breaking efficiency rating and boasting about it look incredibly good for the brand. Although having a high-efficiency panel is lovely, most households won’t benefit much from it. In reality, it will probably only raise the cost of solar installation.

The solar panel’s wattage, or power rating, truly determines how much electricity it generates. One factor that directly influences a panel’s power output is its efficiency. A solar panel with high power output and a low-efficiency rating are probably unavailable.

In addition, the wattage of a panel acts as a limit on the number of solar electricity panels can generate. In other words, if you have two 350-watt panels, one with a rating of 18% efficiency and the other with a rating of 21% efficiency, they can each only provide 350 watts of power.

The 18% efficiency panel is arguably the best option in this situation because it will likely be less expensive.

Are high-efficiency solar panels ever necessary?

Technically speaking, if you have a small amount of roof space, you should get solar panels with a higher efficiency rating. But once more, the power rating will show the efficiency.

Get panels with a greater wattage since they will likely have a better efficiency rating if your roof is tiny or only a small piece of it is eligible for a solar installation. Even though it could be more expensive, this is the best approach to installing the solar panels you need on your roof to pay your electricity bill.
