After installation: What happens after you go solar?

Most first-time users of solar panels assume that they will enjoy solar power savings immediately. However, that is not the case. While solar energy has multiple benefits, contractors and promoters alike set unrealistic expectations about residential solar power.

In this blog, you’ll know what to expect after installing solar panels. This way, you can set your expectations accordingly and make the most out of your solar power project.

Producing electricity

The truth is, you won’t be able to produce electricity after your installation immediately. There are a few things which you have to do first.

You have to make sure that your house is fitted with a bi-directional meter. This allows your home to be supplied by electricity from your traditional electric grid and through your solar panels.

Next, you have to secure a Permission to Operate (PTO) permit from your electricity provider. Solar power contractors can provide this immediately. However, if you installed a DIY solar project, you’d have to apply this for yourself.

Monitoring your energy production

Another thing that you have to do after installing your solar project is to monitor your energy production.

It’s highly suggested that you buy an inverter before using your solar panel. This way, you can conserve some unused energy on your primary electric grid.

Next, check if your solar inverters have monitoring equipment. These devices are usually connected to your wifi network, which enables you to monitor the energy production of your solar project.

Check if your solar panels are producing the amount of electricity they’re expected to make. If they’re not doing so, some problems may have occurred during the installation process.

Aside from this, you should also check if your solar power project is producing the electricity you intend them to. This way, you’d know if you’d need to install more solar panels.
